DeLorean Motor Company (California) Open House

May 5, 2007

The day was cool with a slight breeze as the owners and their cars started arriving at 8AM. Cars lined up in front of the shop and around the other businesses on the street. The new sign, replacing the old DeLorean Motor Center sign.
More cars arrive.
Cameron Dingler, of the Las Vegas group and his 'chromalesent' Delorean. Views inside the new showroom
And views inside the shop:
Some actual screen-used props from BTTF. Clara's telescope and Griff's expanding bat. They belong to the owner of the BTTF car seen in the background of the above photo. Danny built both and his car is in the foreground.
Later in the day, in pulls a DeLorean with a VERY unusual sound. People pour in to see. The owner (in the cap and shades) proudly shows off his creation.

.A 450hp Lotus V8! Somehow he managed to get it to fit in the DeLorean..

but not without extensive modifications to the frame.
By the afternoon there's not a single place to park for 2 blocks.
There was a bit of overflow parking at the business across the street. My green SVX was hiding there. It was too dirty to show to the group. Yes, that's a white DeLorean. There's another one in Sacramento, but I've never seen it myself.
A couple other cars had other types of engines. This one has a Buick V6. This is Don's personal car. It's covered in lights and lots of other gizmos.
I didn't get the story on this one.. Any time you take a picture of Don and he knows you're doing it, he'll give you the 'thumbs up'
The interior of the car with the white intake hose had custom seats. They were really comfortable. Here's Danny, and his wife is in the foreground.
Danny's new office. The guitar is made from the hood of a DeLorean. The knobs are headlight switches. And it was signed by John DeLorean (I saw him sign it in Cleveland). Don starts his announcements and does a tech session on the fuel system.
After his tech session, I made an announcement about DCS West. I'm not a great public speaker but I managed to get through it. We're saving all the details for the Open House in Houston. Here's a cutaway view of the fuel tank. This is a very handy photo. My fuel boot just broke and this really helps to see exactly what is going on inside the tank.
After the day was done, some of us went to dinner at Red Lobster. Yes, that fellow in the foreground is DMC president Stephen Wynne.   Don and Danny have really taken things up a notch the the shop. The future for our shiny little cars is looking brighter all the time.
Now if they were only closer...
